What is low sulfur graphite?
Low sulfur graphite petroleum coke, abbreviated as GPC, is one of the most widely used additives in casting industries. This type of graphite is one of the synthetic graphites that is obtained from petroleum derivatives and has a black and gray appearance and is generally spongy. To be precise, this type of graphite is a product of oil processing, which is made from high-purity petroleum coke in a furnace at a very high temperature (2500-3500 degrees). The ingredients of this product are high-purity carbon and the other elements in it are small amounts of sulfur and ash. Its shape is spongy and porous and has a black and gray appearance. One of the most important things in low-sulfur graphite, as the name suggests, is the amount of sulfur or sulfur in it. which should be very small and controllable and less than 0.05% so as not to cause structural changes in the alloy.
Applications of low sulfur graphite
Some products are very useful in casting industries. Low sulfur graphite is one of the most useful and widely used additives in casting industries. This type of graphite is used to carbonize ferrous metals and is used to make ductile iron. It is also used as an additive in plastic and rubber industries due to its high carbon purity. Low sulfur graphite improves germination in molten iron and increases graphite sphericity and uniform distribution in the melt. Among its other features, it improves iron ferrite content without perilite stabilizer. This type of graphite has higher absorption compared to persulfur graphite. This type of graphite is made from the reaction of petroleum coke (petroleum coke) with Yala purity in a graphite furnace with a very high temperature of about 3000 degrees Celsius. Sulfur removal in petroleum coke is calcined. And it is very difficult to bring it below 1% and requires very high heat.
Properties of low sulfur graphite
Low sulfur graphite has more than 99% to 98.5% carbon. Sulfur is also used in this product, and low sulfur should be used at most 0.05% in this composition. Nitrogen is one of the other elements used in this composition and its amount is from PPM200 to PPM300. Also, the graphitization temperature of low sulfur graphite is between 2500 and 3500 oC.
